Significant Places:
Ajaccio, Corsica
I was born in this French-occupied island.
France
The setting of my massive empire with citizens that supported me.
Britain
The only country in Europe that competed with me and France for imperial power.
Russia
They used the scorched-earth policy that damaged me the most, left me with only 10,000 soldiers of my Grand Army that I had built up.
Important Events
Coup d'etat
My sudden rise to power in France. The citizens took a plebiscite, or vote, to chose me as leader of the French republic.
Napoleonic Code
My greatest work that was a comprehensive system of laws for France.
-Limited liberty
-Promoted order and Authority over individual rights
-Took away rights of women (such as right to sell property)
-Restricted freedom of speech
-Restored slavery in the French colonies of the Caribbean

Battle of Trafalgar
The only major battle I lost against Britain's powerful navy. The battle took place off the southern coast of Spain in 1805. The destruction of the French fleet led to to major outcomes:
-It assured the supremacy of the British navy for the next century
-I had to give up my plans for invading Britain

Blockading Britain
I formed the Continental system to prevent Britain from trading and communicating with other nations of Europe. Britain responded with their own blockade that was superior because of their strong navy.
The Peninsular War
I invaded Portugal because they were not following the Continental system. Spanish towns rioted and I then overthrew their king and put my brother on the throne. Spain responded with fury. Bands of Spanish peasant fighters were formed. Th British helped the Spanish in a war against me and me troops.
Invasion of Russia
I invaded Russia because they broke our alliance. It was probably the worst mistake of all. Alexander pulled his troops eastward and used the scorched-earth policy to weaken my army. My army had no livestock or crops to feed on our journey to invade Russia. Much of my Grand Army had died of hunger, coldness, exhaustion, and wounds.
Battle of Waterloo
After being exiled for the first time, I then escaped and went to France. Many European countries reformed their armies, especially Britain, and prepared to battle at the village of Waterloo in Belgium. The British and the Prussians attacked my army. They defeated me.
Map
This map shows my success in conquering other European nations by imperialism. I captured most European territories and built many alliances.
